Configuration: Espionage

Spy bonuses, action resolution, theft, and framing.

Settings index

spy

Technology spying bonuses

Configures the spy bonus granted by each spy-related technology.

Notes: Defaults preserve classic behavior. Xeno Psychology defaults to zero but can be assigned a multiplayer spy bonus, matching MOO2 1.50.

Fields

Built-in default configuration

spy spy_tech_bonus = 10 0 5 10 10 10;

Examples

spy spy_tech_bonus neural_scanner = 10;
spy spy_tech_bonus xeno_psychology = 5;

Telepathic spying bonus

Sets the spying bonus granted by the Telepathic racial trait.

Notes: The configured byte remains unsigned, while the runtime contribution uses the signed x86 immediate-byte interpretation: values 128 through 255 contribute minus 128 through minus 1.

  • Configuration path: spy telepathic_bonus
  • Accepted input: a number

Built-in default configuration

spy telepathic_bonus = 10;

Examples

spy telepathic_bonus = 10;

Government spying bonuses

Configures the offensive spying bonus supplied by each government.

Notes: These values apply only to espionage offense. Defaults preserve the existing government modifiers.

  • Configuration path: spy government_bonus
  • Accepted input: 8 entries
  • Entry names: Government

Built-in default configuration

spy government_bonus =
    0
    0
    10
    15
    -10
    -10
    15
    15;

Examples

spy government_bonus federation = -10;

Spy technology theft policy

Controls whether a successful spy theft excludes the current research field, only the current technology application, or neither.

Notes: The default preserves classic behavior and matches MOO2 1.50.

Allowed choices

  • except_current_field
  • except_current_tech
  • anything

Built-in default configuration

spy steal_mode = except_current_field;

Examples

spy steal_mode = except_current_tech;

Frame players who know stolen technology

Allows a successful spy theft to frame any contacted third player, including one who already knows the stolen technology.

Notes: False preserves classic behavior, which excludes a potential framed player who already knows the stolen technology. Sabotage framing has no stolen technology and is unaffected.

  • Configuration path: spy frame_anyone
  • Accepted input: true or false

Built-in default configuration

spy frame_anyone = false;

Examples

spy frame_anyone = true;

Spy action success thresholds

Configures the minimum spy-roll result required for each theft and sabotage outcome.

Notes: A roll equal to the threshold succeeds. Values match the MOO2 1.50 unsigned seven-bit domain.

Fields

Built-in default configuration

spy success = 80 90 70 90;

Examples

spy success steal = 80;
spy success sabotage_and_frame = 90;

Spy count bonuses

Configures the spy-count cutoffs for +2, +1, and paired-spy roll bonuses.

Notes: plus_one must be greater than plus_two. Remaining spies contribute one point per pair after the plus-one cutoff.

Fields

Built-in default configuration

spy count_bonus = 5 10;

Examples

spy count_bonus plus_two = 5;
spy count_bonus plus_one = 10;

Spy random roll bounds

Configures the inclusive random-roll bounds added to attacking and defending spy rolls.

Notes: Each nonzero random bound returns a value from one through that bound; zero retains the native RNG fallback of one. The maximum matches 1.50's signed 32-bit configuration domain. Defaults preserve classic behavior.

Fields

Built-in default configuration

spy roll_random_bonus = 100 100;

Examples

spy roll_random_bonus attacker = 100;
spy roll_random_bonus defender = 100;

Guaranteed spy-action rolls

Configures attacker random-roll values that guarantee theft or sabotage succeeds regardless of other spy bonuses.

Notes: The theft value also guarantees theft framing; the sabotage value also guarantees sabotage framing.

Fields

Built-in default configuration

spy guaranteed_roll = 100 100;

Examples

spy guaranteed_roll steal = 100;
spy guaranteed_roll sabotage = 100;
