Gravity is a fundamental force of nature. In MOO2 there exist three levels of gravity: low, normal, and high. It exists in two forms:

  • An attribute of a planet, each planet has its own gravity. The size and mineral richness of a planet determines its mass, and therefore the strength of its gravity.

  • A racial trait, representing a gravity optimum for that race and the gravity of its home planet.

Gravity impacts Productivity and Marine Combat.

Productivity

The productivity of colonists is affected by gravity unless Planetary Gravity Generator is present. The following table summarizes the productive penalties:

  • This penalty applies to farming, industrial and research outputs. It can be negated by building a Planetary Gravity Generator.

  • The race can use evolutionary mutation to change its gravity optimum.

Marine Combat

  • Heavy-G troops have an extra hit point. This effectively doubles early marine hit points and is a considerable bonus.

  • Low-G troops have a -10 combat rating penalty.

  • Combat performance of troops is not affected by the gravity of the planet being invaded or by fighting in zero gravity.
